AKA -Active Knowledge Academy invites applications from artists to participate as Associate Faculty members in the month long program to be launched on June 2nd, 2011 at the Bronx River Art Center temporary exhibition space at 305 E 140 Street, Bronx, New York. AKA's curriculum includes the following courses: Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Mixed Media, Music and Dance.
Responsible for teaching an introductory course, preferred candidates are artists whose main practice is in one of the six listed tracks offered by the academy. Candidates for the Associate Faculty member positions don't need prior teaching experience, but must be willing to commit to "teach" 1 hour a week for a period of 3 weeks. Class sessions begin on Wednesday, June 8, and end on Friday, June 24. A symbolic honorarium will be paid at the end of the program during AKA's Graduation Ceremony and Exhibition to take place on Wednesday, June 29, 2011.

About AKA
Functioning as a school for higher learning and emulating the systems established by academia, AKA -Active Knowledge Academy explores issues related to the process of art learning, practice and production in an environment that simulates schooling, and where pedagogical discourse goes hand in hand with experimentation and discovery. AKA is a platform for experimentation, dialogue, and collective learning. The four weeks during which the gallery space becomes a laboratory for six selected teaching artists (Faculty), participants (Students), and the administrator (Dean of AKA) will culminate in an exhibition featuring documentation of the learning process, ephemera from the courses, comparative studies executed by the Dean, and the works produced by the faculty and students.
